The department of Radiation Oncology at RL JALAPPA HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTRE, Tamaka Kolar, was established in the year 2002 and is located in the university building.
Department of Radiation Oncology offers high quality conventional radiotherapy treatments using Telecobalt machine and various Brachytherapy treatments using remote after-loading HDR Brachytherapy machine. Department is equipped with Telecobalt machine (Model - Theratron- Phoenix). Telecobalt machine is used to treat Head and neck cancers, Ca Breast, Gynaecological cancers, Soft tissue sarcomas, Lung tumors, GI and GU tumors and also to deliver palliative radiotherapy to various sites.
High dose rate Brachytherapy (Nucletron with Ir-192 source) allows intracavitary Brachytherapy for Gynaecological Carcinoma cases, intraluminal Brachytherapy for carcinoma oesophagus and bronchus cases. Interstitial Brachytherapy for soft tissue sarcomas, cervical cancer and head and neck cancers and surface mould treatment are used in specialized situations.
Our multidisciplinary clinics and tumour boards enable us to provide a comprehensive care plan to each patient entrusting us with his/her care. We work in close collaboration with Surgical Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Neurosurgeons, Pathologists and Radiologists to ensure that every patient gets an individualized treatment plan for his/her ailment.
Our department follows and meets all the requirements/ guidelines of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) which is the regulatory authority, commissioning and quality control body for use of ionizing radiation in India. We also undergo structured training for Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists and Radiotherapy Technologists.

Our endeavor is to achieve high degree of clinical expertise and delivering state of the art radiotherapy services to achieve cure and palliation of cancer patients. Each member of the team including Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, Radiation Technologist and Oncology nurses are committed to providing highest standard of patient care and safety. We take extra care during treatment of cancer patients making effort to sparing normal tissues whenever possible and ensure patient comfort thorough meticulous treatment planning and counseling before treatment. Multiple safety checks at every step including patient positioning, motion management, radiation planning and execution ensure accurate and effective treatment.
