About Us

The Dept. of Psychiatry was established in 1988 with Dr. K.N Srinivas as the HoD. Initially the Dept. offered basic psychiatric services for the needy patients. In July 2001, Dr. Nagendran S took over as HoD of the Dept. In February 2013, Dr. Mohan Reddy took over the responsibilities as the HoD. Under his aegis modified ECT’s and psychometric assessments were provided for the patients. The Dept. runs specialty clinics like Child guidance clinic, Geriatric clinic, Community Psychiatry and De-addiction clinics besides offering Marital Therapy, Family therapy, Scholastic Difficulty management, etc. The Dept. of Psychiatry works in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme –Manasadhara and the Manochaitanya program run by the District Health authorities, Kolar. The MD Psychiatry course has been started from the academic year 2020-21 with two seats per year.

The Academy established the department of Psychiatry in 1988. The department provides services like geriatric clinic, counselling, Deaddiction clinic, Community Psychiatry services to the people in the district. Our department fulfills the mental health needs of the people in and Kolar district.
There are excellent inpatient services in the hospital which includes Female, Male wards, Recreational therapy, and Deaddiction ward. Apart from rehabilitative services. The department has been actively involved in Postgraduate training with academic activities inculcating scientific temper among students.
The department provides ambience to conduct research activities on wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders. Apart from organizing CME’s, Workshops and Guest lectures, the students are provided opportunities to participate in state, zonal and national conference to publish their research work.
Department provides consultation Liaison services, to other inpatients in the hospital. The department works in corroboration with other departments to provide a comprehensive, holistic and evidence based care for the patients.
Manasadhara program sponsored by state government gives rehabilitation for chronically ill Psychiatric patients which includes occupational therapy, Recreational therapy. we also are involved in Mano Chaitanya programme wherein mental health needs of people in other talukas of Kolar district are addressed.
