The Centre of Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is well endowed with the gamut of multispecialty disciplines to offer superlative and holistic treatment and facilities encompassing all aspects of women and baby healthcare.

Being a tertiary care centre our department is well equipped to provide women with comprehensive health care ranging from antenatal and postnatal care, General gynaecology, Infertility services, Cancer screening for Gynaecological Oncology and Family planning services.

Our team of expert specialists in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology aim to provide emergency obstetric care all round the clock to patients who are referred in critical condition. Also all our faculties are committed to teaching, scholarly pursuits and patient care.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at SDUAHER was established in 1986 and is a multi-speciality department providing high quality patient care in the areas of antenatal care, postnatal welfare, infertility, oncology and urogynaecology. It also offers first-class clinical services with an updated academic curriculum and advanced level of research. The Department provides comprehensive obstetrical care, family welfare, infertility management, prenatal diagnosis, cancer treatment, endoscopic surgery, menopause management, pelvic floor medicine and reconstructive surgery

Ours is tertiary care rural centre catering all referred cases from various primary and secondary care hospitals in a complicated state. Also we get cases from 2 states as we share borders of tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh. And also our institution have recently established oncology institute so we are privileged to treat high risk pregnancies, gynec oncology cases and infertility cases too.

  • High risk pregnancy care, Management of bad obstetric history cases

  • Family Planning Programme
  • Counselling, Distribution of oral contraceptives, condoms and Intrauterine copper device insertion free of cost, tubal sterilisation both laparotomy and minilap.

  • Outpatient consultation for common gynaecological problems and complex disorders where experienced faculty provide quality care.

  • Diagnostic And Operative Hysteroscopy
  • It is being carried out to diagnose and treat abnormal uterine bleeding, missing intrauterine device etc.

  • Cancer Screening
  • Pap smear for cervical cancer, Cervical biopsy and endometrial sampling by pipelle , Fractional curettage is being done for early recognition of malignant changes. Colposcopy for diagnosis of pre invasive and invasive cancer of cervix Outpatient endometrial biopsy facilities are also available.

  • Menopausal Clinic
  • Complete evaluation and counselling of women who are premenopausal or post-menopausal including hormone replacement therapy is provided in our department.

  • Integrated Counselling And Testing Centre (ICTC)
  • Located in the outpatient wing, the center offers pre and post-test counseling and free HIV spot tests. This serves in the reduction of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

    Obstetric drills by postgraduate students are being carried out regularly.

    Yoga training for cancer patients.

  • Inpatient Care
  • Labor room — well equipped with adult and fetal monitors, portable ultrasound machine, Eclampsia room, and four air-conditioned operation theatres.

Yes it is done here. Its free of cost.
What is the average length of stay in hospital after cesarean section?
A patient is expected to stay in hospital for an average of 7 to 8 days post cesarean section.
Can sterilisation be done with cesarean section and post delivery?
Yes it can be done along with cesarean section and 48 hours after vaginal delivery ( laparotomy).

Yes there is a full time available blood bank but donors are needed to replace the units which you buy.
WHAT SHOULD MY DIET BE ONCE I AM PREGNANT?
A pregnant woman needs more folic acid,calcium,iron and protein than a non pregnant woman.green leafy vegetables,whole grains,dairy products,fruits and lean meat should make up to 80% of the diet.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET CHECKED BY MY DOCTOR DURING MY PREGNANCY?
In normal pregnancyyou can be expected to come in for a checkup on the following days
  • 4 weeks to 28 weeks – 1 visit /month
  • 28 weeks to 36 weeks-1 visit/2 weeks
  • 36 weeks to 40 weeks-1 visit/week
  • In high risk pregnancy like twins,gestational diabetes,hypertension your doctor want to see you more often depending on your condition.
WHAT ARE TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR PELVIC INFLAMMATION?
Once examination findings and tests confirm PID,your doctor will prescribe you antibiotics.if the PID has progressed to form an abcess,you may need surgery.
When should I contact a doctor for not able to conceive after marriage?
Even after 1 year of marriage if couple does not conceive should consult doctor for further evaluation in women age < 35 yrs,if women age > 35 should consult doctor after 6 months of marriage .
