      Clinical Divisions for patient care

    • Outpatient Clinics: Provides comprehensive eye care and basic procedures and follow – ups for both adults and pediatric cases.
      • Subspecialties:

      • Retina: Focuses on retinal diseases and surgeries.
      • Glaucoma: Manages glaucoma-related conditions.
      • Cornea and External Disease: Addresses corneal and ocular surface disorders.
      • Oculoplasty: Deals with eyelid and facial issues.

    • Surgical theatres: Well equipped for various ophthalmic surgeries.
    • Diagnostic Imaging facilities: department houses various basic as well as advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tools like visual field analyser, specular microscopy and OCT.
    • Additionally, the department runs a licensed Eye Bank Services, Wet lab, Minor OT and Seminar Rooms with AV aids, Library and Museum for undergraduate and resident training.

      Support Services

    • Optometry: Provides vision assessments, assist in diagnostics and aid in visual rehabilitation.
    • Nurses: Offer pre- and post-operative care and assist in procedures.

      Research and Education

    • Conducts clinical and basic science research including dissertation of residents, intramural projects and ICMR projects.
    • Residency Programs: Training of residents so that he/she who has successfully completed the three –year integrated Master’s course in Ophthalmology, shall be able to practice competently and safely as medical teacher and /or specialist in clinical work, research and community health care that he/she serves.
    • Offers B. Sc and M Optometry courses.
      Community Outreach

    • Programs under National program for control of blindness to promote eye health awareness and provide services to underserved populations.

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

The scope of services in the department of ophthalmology encompasses a wide range of specialized areas aimed at diagnosing, treating, and managing various eye conditions. Here are some of the services offered that aim to provide comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages.

Comprehensive Eye Exams Routine check-ups to assess vision and ocular health.
Community Services Comprehensive eye screening camps, Diabetic retinopathy camps, School screening camps, General health camps,
Cataract Surgery Visual rehabilitation of cataract patients through surgical extraction through techniques like small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification followed by refraction.
Corneal Services Treatment for corneal diseases, including corneal ulcers, dry eye and transplants
Retina Services Management of retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, vein occlusions & retinal detachment.
Screening and management of Retinopathy of prematurity
Glaucoma Management Diagnosis and treatment of all types of glaucoma, including medical therapy, laser treatments and surgical options like trabeculectomy
Uveitis and Inflammatory Eye Disease Diagnosis and management of inflammatory conditions affecting the uvea and surrounding tissues.
Emergency Eye Care Immediate care for ocular emergencies like mechanical and chemical injuries, lens induced glaucoma, retinal artery and vein occlusion, vitreous hemorrhage, acute angle closure attack and glaucoma etc.
Neuro-Ophthalmology Evaluation and treatment of vision problems related to neurological disorders like optic neuritis.
Oculoplastic Surgery Surgical treatments for eyelid and orbital disorders, including interdepartmental approach for reconstructive procedures.
Others Pediatric Ophthalmology Diagnosis and treatment of common ocular eye disorders in children, as well as congenital and developmental cataract and amblyopia

    • NEW INITIATIVES:

      The Department of Ophthalmology always aims at enhancing patient care, advancing research, and fostering education in the field of eye health. In this regard certain initiatives reflecting our commitment to staying at the forefront to address the evolving needs of our community are as follows:

    • Community services at Doddaballapura initiated a collaborative initiative along with Lion’s Club to provide comprehensive accessible eye care to all patients at Doddaballapura district.


    • collaboration with PRACTO Foundation A collaborative initiative where ‘Door-to- Door’ Comprehensive Screening of vulnerable patients is done in rural areas with limited access to healthcare facilities.


    • “Alumni Lectures” : This initiative is an engaging platform that connects current residents with accomplished alumni, providing insights and knowledge from diverse fields of ophthalmology. The alumni were invited as guest speakers to the following events / observations:
